About us
The Textile, Leather, and Garment Industrial Federation of Ethiopia plays a central role in organizing and advocating for workers across the country's growing manufacturing sectors. It operates alongside key institutions such as the Ethiopian Textile and Garment Manufacturers’ Association (ETGAMA) and the Ethiopian Leather Industries Association (ELIA). ETGAMA represents over 100 textile and garment factories and works to improve the business environment, expand export potential, and enhance quality standards. Similarly, ELIA supports nearly 190 leather-related enterprises and is dedicated to promoting eco-friendly practices, innovation, and global competitiveness in Ethiopia’s leather industry. Both associations actively organize major industry events, such as Africa Sourcing & Fashion Week and the All African Leather Fair, to connect manufacturers with international markets. Complementing these efforts, the Industrial Federation of Textile, Leather, and Garment Workers’ Trade Unions (IFTLGWU) advocates for workers' rights, especially in industrial parks like Hawassa and Bole Lemi, where issues such as low wages, limited union representation, and poor working conditions are prevalent. The Federation campaigns for living wages, fair labor practices, and stronger collective bargaining, particularly for women workers. Together, these institutions support Ethiopia’s vision to become a global hub for sustainable textile and leather manufacturing through industry development, labor protection, and strategic use of industrial parks.
